Saadani National Park
Gazetted in 2005, Saadani National Park is one of Tanzania’s most recently established wildlife sanctuaries and is the only one that borders the sea.
The 1,100km2 area harbours marine, riverine and terrestrial flora and fauna. Is therefore offers visitor an extremely diverse natural environment.
About 30 species of larger mammal are present Saadani National Park. Some of these include elephant, lion, giraffe, buffalo, wildebeest and zebra. Mangrove trees and palms line the gently flowing Wami River where hippo, crocodiles and a vast array of water birds including wooly-necked storks, kingfishers and fish eagles can be observed. Green turtles nest on the sandy beaches and out to sea, humpback whales and dolphins are a treasured sight.
